Introduction
The Geneva Conference on July 21, 1954, recognized the 17th parallel as a “provisional military demarcation line” temporarily dividing the country into two states, Communist North Viet Nam and “Free” South Viet Nam. The tour to DMZ will bring you the historical introduction about the war between Viet Nam and the US in the years from 1954 to 1975. Besides, you will explore the charming of the nature with forest, mountain ranges and river.
Around 7:30 am, tour guide will pick you up at hotels in Hue city, and take you to Quang Tri province.
First stop is Long Hung church it was built in 1955-1956 using reinforced concrete which is evident as the damage incurred in 1972 is still visible today. It stands as a testament to the strength and bravery shown against the American and South Vietnamese forces.
Leading to Dong Ha Town used to be a strategically important location of U.S. Marine Combat Base, as an outpost to provide surveillance of troop movements across the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ).
We will follow the Ho Chi Minh trail- a logistical system that ran from the North Vietnam to the South Vietnam crossing through the neighboring kingdoms of Laos and Cambodia.
Take a short break at Dakrong bridge before heading to Rock pile: a base for American long – range artillery nearby and Khe Sanh combat base – a valley surrounded entirely by rolling mountains and forest, was one of the most controversial battles – of the American War.
We’ll have lunch at a local restaurant. After fulfilling our belly, we’ll continue to visit:
Doc Mieu base - one part of an elaborate electronic system (McNamara’s wall) intended to prevent infiltration across the DMZ. Hien Luong bridge is known as the "Peace Bridge", a beam bridge built from steel by the French in 1950 - an important landmark in the partition of the country into a northern and a southern zone along the 17th parallel by the Geneva Accords of 1954.
Ben Hai River: the river flows from west to east just south of the 17th parallel and close to the northern border of Quang Tri Province.
Vinh Moc tunnels: The complex of tunnel, located deep in the Vietnamese Demilitarized Zone, including wells, kitchens, rooms for each family and spaces for healthcare.
Back to Hue in late afternoon. End the tour.
